I, like many 000's will have around this time of year, have just requested a dreaded 'cycle to work' voucher for £1k.

I've been a MTB'er for years but have finally decided to get a road bike which will be used for regular commutes to work, as well as long rides at the weekends.

Any suggestions? I was looking at the Wilier and Bianchi's - am I on the right lines? Other suggestions?

Thanks

Ash

    Planet X

    Focus Cayo

The above two are the uber popular choices, due to their amazing value.
    I like bikes...

  • Another vote for Planet-x. I've had mine for 2 weeks and I love it!! It is good value and I know I'm not an expert but it's such a great bike. I've done about 100 miles on it and I would have done lots more if the weather had been better. It's not really an all weather bike though, I might buy something with mudguards when I've paid for this one

    Manchester wheelers

    PB's
    10m 20:21 2014
    25m 53:18 20:13
    50m 1:57:12 2013
    100m Yeah right.
  • Wont be popular but I've just got a Carrera Virago, at 17.5 lbs it's lighter than the rest (mind you after adding mudguards and an array of lights I think I may have doubled the weight). If you can put up with the negative comments about the brand it seems good value to me.

A colleague has just got a planet-x, I’m no expert but the wheels on mine "look" a lot better, for example the skewers on mine seem far better quality than unbranded ones on the planet-x which look the same as on my “cheaper” bikes – hope this makes sense.

I'd advise going a good local bike shop and getting fitted if you're not used to riding a road bike. Riding positions will vary depending on the bike.

Or you could order something on the Tinter-web and 'hope' it's right!
    It's all good.

Well Wilier are lovely, but Focus and Planet X are better value for money. I'd still have the Wilier though as I've owned a Focus and a Wilier and the Wilier was a nicer bike, not by £700 admittedly, but it just had a certain something about it that was lacking in the Focus...
  • Get a Focus Culebro for £900

it's an Aluminium frame and lighter than the all carbon model and has SRAM Rival groupset which is miles better than Ultegra and about as good as Dura Ace

The planet X's are good value but don't come with SRAM.
