Looking to upgrade my 9 speed Veloce Ergos to either Centaur or Chorus 10 speed units; does anybody have any experience of either, am happy to pay the extra £50 but am I getting £50 more spec?

Cheers

Chorus - you get better trimming on the front mech.

I've got Centaur, nothing really wrong with them and the only difference is the front trimming and they are slightly heavier, but if you're going to upgrade you might as well get the best you can afford.

One of the selling points of the Escape mechanism is that they are lighter than the old mechanism. Centaur is 14grams lighter than Chorus...even Veloce in all it's alloy levered glory is only 3 grams heavier than Chorus.
I'd rather walk than use Shimano
  • there is another difference AFAIK: with chorus and Record you can shift more than one gear at a time at the back.

that's the biggy for me. shifting down one gear at a time only on the centaur.

I don't really find it a problem, I can normally press the button faster than the rear derailleur can shift anyway.
