Not wanting to hijack someone else's thread, what is 'float' when referring to clipless pedals?

Good.
Allowing your foot some rotation prevents putting a strain on your knees. Very few people use pedals without any float.0 -

for example, look cleats come in three colours depending on float. they are available in:
Black - 0 degree float (fixed)
Grey - 4.5 degree float
Red - 9 degree float
