You might. Campagnolo 8 speed spacing is 0.5mm, as is Shimano 7. You'll have to fiddle with the stops though.

BTW the Hubbub option is not available on new Shimano mechs-I successfully run shimano 8 on Campag 10 shifters

I've done this by fooling around with the cable routing at the anchor bolt on the rear mech. See the Highpath Engineering site for excellent advice. Worked well enough.

I bought an 07 XT mech to go on my Campag 10 crosser with shimano hubs, and it appears I can't use the Hubbub/Highpath solution, as the configeration of the pinch bolt has changed

What era mech are you using?

It was a (1998) Chorus 8 mech (& levers) on a 6 speed Maillard block, which didn't offer equal spacings between cogs but all inter-cog spacings were close enough to 5mm to allow the set up to work. I only ditched the block when I found an (indexed) 7 block on ebay. (which, with 126mm hub, means that the chain rubs on the drop out on the smallest sprocket, thus preventing me from engaging in world class sprints, and that one I'm sticking to).
  • I tried a 7 speed but it did foul the dropout, the block in question is I think a Regina but WILL be swapped as it is too close ratio (12-23 or25 I forget)for me in hilly Derbyshire.
The mechs are 8 speed I believe Athena I think, not sure, I am hoping a 12-26 or even 27 will work with the rear mech it's a standard /short? cage item so again not sure. I will check it all out in daylight tomorrow.

A 25T cog is certainly OK with a short-cage mech; anything bigger might be pushing it a bit, though, and you'll have to swap to long-cage.

  • sorry for delay and cheers for help guys, I have used a digital vernier and found the current 6 speed block a Regina syncro and Campagnolo 8 speed are both the same spacing distance...5mm so all should be ok.
