Oh! The Dilemma : Fancy Coloured Wheels ?

I'll be building a new Ti. bike shortly ( for my partner ) and she's being a little picky about the colour of the wheels ( really ! ) .
Her old ones were Blue anodised Mavics of some description . I admit they looked neat . She likes my new Shamal Ultra's but isn't keen on the gold colour . Nor does she want the Ti. coloured option - " boring" . And so on .
Is there a fancy coloured 'ready made' out there to be had ? I'll be working back from the final choice to the appropriately coloured Chris King headset I suppose .
Is there a pink wheelset out there I wonder ?

    Pricey, but nice wheels.

  • Blimey ! that was swift .

Thanks . Good choice , they are rather striking aren't they ? I've an idea she would prefer something with a BLUE hue ( ..as she's a 'blue' sort of person - she tells me )

Hlafords for some spray paintt :) , then she can chose her own shade of lue
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • O.K. , thanks to you both for the input .
Tune ? Never heard of 'em ! They look good though .
Velocity ? Again never heard of 'em . Have I led such a sheltered life I wonder ?

    Will search them up .

  • What you need to find is a set of blue spinergies:

  • Jeee'zus Les ! ! !! Do you actually live with that in the sunny part of the Atlantic there ?
Striking is certainly the word here .

BTW . Excuse me for not getting back to you re. the pasting in of pic's here . Not normally so rude .

  • Yes , I have led a sheltered life .
You can get a set of Pink rims ! Don't know about Pink hubs yet but likely they're there too somewhere . So the matching Pink Chris King headset might yet be a go'er .
All down to following up on the Velocity rims lead that Dennis flagged .
Any colour you fancy . Wonderful to know that we needn't be confined to the dismal ( .. sign' o ' the times ? ) black / grey / silver option that the big makers dictate . Why don't Campag or Mavic stick their necks out for a change ? Well , O.K. then , full marks to the Fulcrums actually .
The 'Tune' hubs thread that I followed up from AP111 's nod , shocked me when I found out the price of the things . Blimey !

Not so long ago Mavic used to do Open Pro rims in blue, and also MA3s in red, but they seem to have vanished from the range now. Obviously not big enough sellers.

I own a pair of the Fulcrum 0's and not only do they look great, but more importantly they are fantastic wheels, light and stiff. I'm delighted with them. Best to get them from Comobike (online Italina Shop) or JediSports (german ebayer - v reliable) as both will be much cheaper than in the UK!

53X12 in Essex sell Velocity rims - Deep Vees in pink are pretty popular with the fixie/courier crowd. I've got a couple of pairs of Velocity rims - they make strong reliable wheels but have been without a decent distributor for a few years so availability has been problematic.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Nice one Monty, you beat me to the Velocity pink recco, I think Planet X have pink tune hubs for less than anyone else (I think they have ONLY pink in stock actually), but only in weird drillings... 16, 18 and 20 or somesuch??

53X12 now carry a decent stock of Velocity and are very helpful, happy to order whatever you want, if you're happy to wait for them, their stock is mostly relevant to the tri crowd, AFAIK.
    Good luck,
    S.

You're right . She had a blue set - of one or the other - on her old bike and they looked super ! Go on the Mavic site now ( which is one of those irritatingly flash web-sites where you get nowhere very slowly ) and there's sod-all by way of colour ; silver ; black ; cd . That's it !

giant mancp : Sorry but is this a wee-wee take?

What ? The pink rims ? That got into my head after I saw Chris King has a pink headset in his range and I thought : well , WTF not ? But yes , pink's not for me or her really .

    That's a bike with attitude ! Love the colour co-ordinated chain !

No , can't be doing with tub's . The Tune hubs look fine but with the rear hub at well over four hundred quid beyond even my elitist leanings .
    "Lick My Decals Off, Baby"
  • Oooops ! Just posted the above and hadn't realized there was another page to this thread .
Aye , I came across Velocity rims earlier on . They look great . Haven't worked out if they're a US product or an Oz product ( there's a Velocity web-site from Oz too ) .
It's heartening that here's a company that's not afraid to dip their stuff in the waters and add the colours .

£400? Nah. You can get a Mag 190 rear hub for £220. Front is £100. Could be less with the online discounters.

You're right ! Dunno where I got the four hundred bit from . Might be a do'able option then .

Velocity are made in Oz, but their biggest market is in the US and that's why they have a kind of mirror site there....

Interesting company, some innovative ideas... see the veloplugs for example.

So are the velocity rims good quality? I am desperate to get my hands on some pink wheels for my ti new build and this looks like a good option. Having never come across these before (and being ingorant of hand built wheels) what do these compare to?

Also, anyone got contact details for 53x12?

53-12 (not 53x12) is in Colchester in Essex, I know it well. Speak to Ed there, top bloke:

I have built a set of wheels using their rims. No problems.
