Will my generic aluminum rims support 23mm tyres? on 26 atm.

Err, pretty much as the title

Currently running some Kenda glass attractors - 8 punctures in 10 rides. Need something new, but thought I'd have a go at 23mm while I'm at it. My rims are cheap non branded, any guesses as to whether I'll be ok with the 3mm reduction? Worried the tyre lip wont catch the rim properly.
