When rocking fore n aft on front brake there is slight play. it isnt the headset im sur eof this.

So is this normal for PIKE bushings? the wheel is in right, discs tight and maxle tight, no loose bearings so its got to be the forks :?:

no there should not be "play" but again get them looked at buy someone who knows.

turn the wheel to 90 degrees and try again what happens?

Can you see movement between the stanctions and the lowers when you rock the bike?

Which Pikes are they? Air U-turns or Dual Airs do knock if the positive and negative chambers aren't set up properly. They appear not to have a physical top-out bumper.

I've got 2 sets of Pikes (different models) and neither of those has any play like you describe.

It really does sound like your headset isn't preloaded properly if you say it's happing with fore and aft movement but if you say it's definitely not that I'd try taking it to a different bikeshop and get them to check if your LBS isn't sure.
