Morning!

I got back from 3 days in south Wales last night and I have had the MOST FANTASTIC time on my fab little bike :D

Did Penhydd on Saturday which was a little disasterous - I didn't really get into the groove and I was pretty rubbish actually  But then on Sunday and yesterday we did Whites Level which was absolutely brilliant - I looked like this :D for all of it! My chain broke on Saturday so we could only do half the trail, but did the whole thing yesterday and I am feeling dead chuffed with myself! I fell off quite a lot, but didn't hurt myself and flew over drop-offs that would have terrified me a week ago :P I even managed some steps at the end

Anyway - I just had to share! I'm feeling VERY pleased with myself and can't wait to go out again!

Sarah (still grinning insanely)

Yep I did whites level a couple of weeks ago despite being ill, it was fantastic.
I particularly liked the rock drops.
I never touched it! It was broke when I got here.

    Yep - totally FAB!

I've really enjoyed all the mounatin biking that i've done so far, but the last few days were something else entirely... I didn't think I would get such a buzz from it :D:D

  • afan whites level is one of my favourite trails out there, easily on par with coed-y-brenin and 7stanes.
where else have you ridden and where do you normally ride?

    Hello :)

I've only been mountain biking for about 4 months, so i'm pretty new to it all! Most riding is in the New Forest / on the south coast with the odd long weekend in Afan thrown in. I'm off to Verbier in July so trying hard to get up to a decent standard for then really...

I'm trying to get in at least one decent ride a week - do you think that's enough to improve quickly and get my fitness up?

  • Sounds like you had a fabulous time! Great to hear you enjoyed it so much. It's given me the inspiration to get of my bum and sort out my bike, which has been of the road ( off the off-road? ) for a couple of weeks.

Must be back in the saddle of Sunday!

    Cheers for the tale :D

yeah that should do you alright for your trip, when the evenings get brighter theres very much a chance of a sneaky ride after work. as you've really only just started you'll learn a fair bit everytime you ride so your skills will develop quickly and i shouldn't worry too much about fitness. You'll just go a tad slower but still enjoy it as much. next time you're over at afan try stopping by at cwmcarn. Its on the way and the climb will certainly give you an idea of your fitness ;). Take plenty of breaks on the way up but it is a real challenge to try and pedal up and not walk any sections. a real challenge ha ha.
  • Well done,

Im off to Afan in April (first time Wales virgin) Really looking forward to it.
Any suggestions as what to take in the way of spares?? (i will take a new chain and brake pads)

    Cheers

    Hello :D

You'll have a fab time! What sort of riding do you usually do, and where?

To be honest i'm not sure what spares to take  I'm a bit rubbish at that sort of thing...! Having had my chain come off mid-way through the ride, I can highly recommend the bike shop at Glyncorrwg!!

Afan is wicked, I went there last July and rode Whites Level and The Wall, going back in April to do those two and Penhydd.

As for spares, just take your usual stuff, chain links, mech hanger, pads :D
