does anybody have any suggestions for a new road/light touring bike, it needs to be/have.
steel or alloy butted frame
triple chainset
105 or similar gears/groupset
carbon forks
traditional or semi compact frame around 54/55cm
mudguard eyes and clearance for about 28mm tyres
rack mounts a bonus
around £500 ,so discounted machines could be good?
any ideas ,I am not snobbish so not fooled by glamour or /'names'
though I wouldn't discount them

500 quid is the keen end of the market for this sort of bike, fitted correctly.
Try Ribble, but if you can, get down to the shop and get yourself properly fitted for the bike.
They only have horizontal top tubed bikes undder 500 though.
Kinesis do a nice frame (starting at GBP163 at Shiny Bikes for what looks like an older version with no fork), and you could then source your gruppo. and other parts from someone like Parker or Wiggle or GB Cycles, or maybe pick up a bargain '06 gruppo.
Some shops will build a Kinesis frame up for you. The only place i've seen them sold in an LBS was Liphook Cycles, but the last time I was there I never got a quote and didn't get along with them.0
