Hi,
Looking to build up a bike soon, it's going to be more of light weight xc bike but I still can't decided on which frame just yet so I thought I would look at getting some parts first Wheels, XC717 Disc, DT Revolution black spokes with Hope Pro II's, is there anything else around better that won't cost four times as much ? and I'm not sure about the noise of Hope rear hubs, would XT be lighter ?
Simon.

The noise of Hope Hubs is like Marmite... I oddly hate Marmite but do like the noise of hope hubs...
Hope pro II based wheelsets are getting wicked reviews at the mo!0 -
DT Revolution spokes are not recommended by many wheel builders - too spindly. Sapim CX-Ray are just as light but are as strong as DT Comps and have the advantage of being bling bladed spokes. They will add about £100 to the build cost though.
Otherwise go for DT Comp would be my advice."Internet Forums - an amazing world where outright falsehoods become cyber-facts with a few witty key taps and a carefully placed emoticon."0 -

I only picked DT Revolution as it's says on Merlin site use these for lightweight xc wheels, so is there not alot of weight difference between DT Revolution and DT Comp ?#
Oh and if you picked black spokes do you still get silver nipples ?

IIRC there is 50g per wheel difference in weight, but a world of strength. Details are on www.dtswiss.com.
Yes you'll still get silver nipples unless you specify otherwise but to get colours the builder will have to use aluminium nipples which are not as good as the plated brass ones (silver)."Internet Forums - an amazing world where outright falsehoods become cyber-facts with a few witty key taps and a carefully placed emoticon."0 -
I invested in pro 2's, DT spokes and sun singletracks last year, no regrets at all.
you know your ratchets working with that click. the cartridge bearings make it a fit and forget set up thats pretty bombproof.
Trail with a few 3ft jumps is my bag and they are well suited.
can't use a cheap cassette on that alloy feehub though, need an xt or pg 990!0 -
XT. Hopes might have a nice crisp sound but I'd bet theyre bastard annoying after a while. Plus taking a cassette off them can be a bit more difficult, even though its not supposed to be.0

XT or XTR hubs for me, because you get the centre-lock attachment for the rotors.
Stick with DT Comp spokes for strength. I considered the Revolutions, but for sake of leaving a banana at home, I figured I'd rather have the strength than the weight saving.
Also consider DT XR4.2d rims.0 -
I'd say, for xc, 717 on xt hubs, and with the money that you save from the proII get sapim CX-ray spokes. Uber bing.0

Nowt wrong with good old ACI DB spokes. I ran DT revs for about 4 years, 98-02 and did 1000s of miles, even some mild DH and jumping, held up fine. Not what I'd recomend though, unless you realy want that weight saving.0
