Watching it now. Haven't a clue what is going on - never watched American football before!0
-
Don't get it, I watched Scotland getting trounced by France (at rugby) earlier and they took a break every 40 minutes, 5 mins in and there is a break already.
My attention span can't take all these breaks.Do Nellyphants count?

+1 when I don't get round to shaving for x days0 -
I'm watching on the beeb.
The Pats did a good job to contain the first drive to a FG only, IMO. Got to back the patriots, although the Giants have picked up their momentum with their current run. Looks like it is going to be a great one to watch.
Maybe the Giants can manage a Wales-esque victory?0 -
The Yank's version of Rugby.
Not worth switching on the tv for imo, but then I'm sure millions of Yanks wouldn't bother with Rugby. Each to their own I suppose.

NY Giants beat NE Patriots 17-14. Great game, highlights are on from 1pm.
One of the presenters described American football thus;
It's like rugby league, but minus a player either side, you only get 4 tackles before possession changes, but if you gain 10 yards you start at one tackle again. A player can pass forwards once during a play. 6 points for a touch down(ball does nothave to be grounded) and one point for a conversion. 3 points for a 'field goal' (drop kick) and 3 points for a converted penalty. No scrums, and play after a tackle always restarts down the centre line of the field.
Reddraggon, I know how you feel, watched the entire game, drank too much coffee, and have now gone through the night! Today is going to be interesting...FCN 10 -
 Damn! Forgot it was being televised and I am out this afternoon, so can't watch highlights.
Better than watching England getting FOver by the Welsh, who are about as talented as Scotland but have more passion. :roll:I say what I like and I like what I say!0 -
I loved the commentator at the end of the game..
"The Giants are the world champions"
Er....0 -
I watched to the end, although I have no idea why, I've never really been into American Football!
That said I too was getting fed up with all the breaks so watched the first 5 mins, then watched Ned Kelly, and then watched the final quarter.
Feeling a bit  today though! Should sleep well tonight.0 -
Its like rugby except for poofs.0

I was busy watching paint dry.0

That's a bit ignorant really. They don't wear the armour because they are poofs, they wear it because they are all massive, heavy and the hits they put in are largely bigger than in rugby.
I think a better statement is some along the lines of "Soccer is football for poofs"
The stop start nature of the game does p!ss me off a bit though, probably the reason why I only watch one games a season. The actual game is pretty good though.0 -
I once heard a Yank describe cricket as being too dull and taking too long so it is a case of each to his own!0 -
I remember (very vaguely, mind) when Channel 4 started covering the NFL. Coverage presented by Nicky Horne. I'm sure OJ Simpson used to present as well but I may be wrong. Very enjoyable sport when you know what's going on!0

Was the half time show any good?Old hippies don't die, they just lie low until the laughter stops and their time comes round again.

You missed a good game, one of the greatest superbowl finals ever played apparently (though that may not mean much), with the winning pass made in the final seconds.0 -
Yeah, half time entertainment was Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, very good and no Janet Jackson 'wardrobe malfunctions'! Good to see everyone having a good time on field at half time. Am shattered now, gone 40 hours straight... :shock:FCN 10

The half time was crap. I was at band rehearsal, we took a break just because, and it was halftime. It was crap.
