I'm really impressed by www.witcombcycles.co.uk. They custom build steel frames (953, if you wish). They're an old company, but admit I'd not heard of them until I saw their stand at the Cycle show. The quality of finish is breathtaking. And they're British.0 -

I met the designer in the shop. He seemed genuinely into cycling but there has been a huge price hike in the last year. The finishes are sensational admittedly. They could do 953 for £1300 which is less than Rorke list it at. The problem is that all the add-ons (incl painit :shock: ) take the price to more like £1600 quid. You have to ask yourself if it is worth it at that price. Add on some nice wheels and half-decent group and you are looking at a re-mortgage.
I guess Witcomb must have pretty high overheads in London and are selling a lot of bikes to punters abroad who want British steel bikes.0
