Replacing Bars without wasting cables...

Hi all
I have just managed to grab myself a nice ITM Millenium 4 ever bar/stem combo from the Evans sale - its for the summer bike.
Bored this afternoon and fancy fitting them but my cables are new and Im not sure how practical it is to replace the bars - removing the brakes cables etc - without having to buy new cables.
Im running shimano - anyone tried this? I thought about unscrewing the STIs and popping them off rather than sliding them off.....
Am i mad?

Can't see why should need new cables - unless the new bars site the levers some distance further away from the mechs and calipers. If you don't want to remove the inner wires at all, then with the bars out of the clamp should be able, moving them backwards/sideways, to slide the STI units off one at a time and replace on the new bars the same way. Might have to adjust the mechs to account for some changes in relative positions.
This sort of thing is why front-loading stems are such a very good thing!
Opinion only you understand, not having seen your set-up.d.j.

Not sure what lies underneath the Allen bolt you tighten the STIs up with but in theory you should be able to undo the allen bolt fully so that it comes out of the thread and lift the STI off and just slide the clamp off the bars, I guess your current stem is a one-bolt affair where you can't take the faceplate off to remove the bars that way?I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0
