Disc Brake Pads Play ?

Hi all
I have just inspected my disc pads for the first thing and was surprised to see them a ‘little’ loose in the caliper. They seemed to just sit against the piston and they was about 1-2 mm of movement either way. Is this correct and if so it must make adjusting them so they don’t touch the rotor very very difficult.
Is this all ok or I am totally losing the plot on this one.
Would apprecaite any advice.
Thank you for you time

Theyre magnetic (most likely) but clipped in. It doesnt matter. If theyre hydraulic theyll usually sort themselves out anyway (with things like the juicys) but not if theyre soles or something.0
