what oil for a mavic freehub

I am doing a complete service on my bike and I have stripped my mavic fts -x freehub but I need to know what oil I should use the mavic service site says use mavic mineral oil but does any one know of a cheaper mineral oil I can use instead of the mavic stuff which going by the price is made of liquid diamonds

    Its not perfectly designed for it but it would do the job well.

    If not you could get a bit of dura ace grease

    It needs to be incredibly light or the freehub drags. You may be best getting the genuine article.

  • Have always used some of the finish line stuff (winter lubricant) on all my wheelsets (Xmax XL, SL and Enduro). The SL are 5 year old and never had a problem of drag, or even oil going dark. Usually, do a service ~3 times a year

    I spoke to an ex cycle mechanic and he said grease is a big no no apparently the pawls can stick and you end up at best with no drive at worst you bust your nuts on the top tube when stand up to put the power down and the freehub fails to engage. :shock:
    he reccomended singer sewing machine oil or shimano/magura hydraulic brake oil
    I used some shimano oil I had spare and the hub runs beautifully :D

    Make sure not to use brake fluid from any other manufacturer :wink:
