I've actually been thinking this for a good few years now, just never thought to ask. Why do discs (brakes) use torx rather than hex? - I've had 1 or 2 bad experiences with torx, especially with rounding off, personally I think they're just too weak.

Does anyone else find this?

they give a great resistance to rounding than allen bolts. there is also a little more material in connection to the shaft making then stronger.
the use of the correct tools rather than the poor ones provided makes a big difference to the life of any fastener.

  • Also they are much lower profile than hex bolts which means you have clearance between the fork leg and the disk. Allen bolts would chew lumps out of your fork!
