Forecast is a chilly -2 tomorrow for my 3 hour ride tomorrow.

Im planning on:
Having two base layers
two pairs of gloves
two pairs of socks
overshoes
some apple squash in the camelbak for a sugar boost

Just wondered if anyone had any tips on keeping warm?

Good mid layer, or combination outer is the key.

I wouldnt put pure appe juice in the camel back - sugar boost yes, but at 11% or so it will dehaydrate you. Water it down 50/50.
  • Keep moving!!! :D Sorry, couldn't resist!
  • I think that is excessive.

You want to make sure that your hands and feet aren't compressed or the blood won't go in properly and you'll get really cold.

Generally you want to be on the edge of shivering when you go out, then you'll warm up to a comfortable temp after 10mins or so. But take something warm to put on over the top in case the temp drops or you are a big girl...

But honestly wear it if you need to.
  • Cheers for the advice!

I find one pair of woolly hiking socks warmer than two pairs of regular socks. And one pair of decent gloves.

Otherwise your kit sounds like what I'd wear.

Perhaps I'd have a gilet as well as two base layers. Or maybe I'd take a full jacket in my rucksack too.

Don't skimp on rations either! I took a muesli bar and energy gel on my four-hour ride last week and bonked worse than I ever have, apart from racing. I'm sure the cold had something to do with it, was v chilly.
