cheers, so far Colombia has surpassed all my expections. The south here is so beautiful, unspoilt and the people so genuine. There is real feeling against the guerilla movements too, things are changing here for the better.
It's hard work riding tho and I'm getting lazier and lazier as time goes on but hey, ultimately it's a holiday. I

    Hi Mike
Hope things are good. Looked at your site. Interesting reading. You don't say much about yourself though. How do you manage to finance your trips and if you are working which you seem to be, how do you get the time off? Do you have anybody at home that may object to your abscense. Just being nosy or intrigued.

    Best wishes you lucky sod.

hey, gawd yesterday was a bonkers day, I'll blog it when I get some energy back, but to answer your questions... (not nosy..) right about me, well just a regular guy I suppose but a slightly bonkers streak... have been travelling for 18yrs (I am 35) but hold down a job as a professional engineer. worked abroad over 6yrs, struggling to settle back into life in the UK, still single so keep buggering off on my bike or climbing mountains. job means usually can only get away for 3-4 weeks at a time but this trip was a case of bullying my employer, they can't replace the specific knowledge I have at the moment without a long training gap for someone new that they can't afford right now so it was a case of "well I'm going away for a couple of months anyway, you can keep me on and I'll come back in march, or if not then I'll just bugger off for a good few months longer..." Thinking on leaving anyway end of year so I can spend a decent length of time back in Latacunga helping out as a volunteer, there is a startup operation there trying to improve the schooling in the villages around. Might as well while I have no family and it will be nice to do something for someone else again.
    adios!

reading this reminds me how free it feels to travel like this. I don't know how I will settle back into work (as I have arranged to do) when I get back to Scotland from Oz in September. I'll have a look at the website when I've got more ineternet time...
