DH bikes? at races? yes they are bit of tube. stops the crap off the front wheel from getting in your face.

Thet work well with a crud catcher because the CC stops the muck hitting your face directly and the tube stops it being flung out in front of you only for your face to collect it as you pass.

    These?

I thought they were pointless until just after Christmas I was out doing my local loop when the trail turned into a stream. It was gently downhill so I was going faster than normal and it was like riding into a wall of water flying up from the front wheel. Got one on order with CRC but they don't have stock and keep putting the delivery date back :(
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

err tear offs??? plus if you actually look where your going then your eyes focus past the dirt on your goggles, and you cant even see it.

still quicker not to have to use the tearoffs.

yes i have tearoffs and yes i fit a tube when needed.

and a tube over that neoprene guard any day as the tube does not hold water.

So when your riding for a long time in wet muddy conditions, how many tear off layers are you going to have on your goggles then!?

I was going to fit an inner tube to the fork, but instead had a wash/wipe system fitted to my goggles.

really splasher what a ridiculous amount of weight.
I have designed and built a "clear view" screen similar to those on ships bridges with a rotating pastic spinner right in front of your eyeline that flings the mud/water off to the side when it hits. the only problem is that the electric motor does get in the eye line rather obscuring your vi............. ow
I never touched it! It was broke when I got here.

err, well i dont use tear offs. i just use goggles, and when they get muddy, i clean them. takes about 15 seconds (and frankly if your riding trails that cover you in so much crap going from top to bottom in such a way that you cant see anything in one run, then you shouldnt be riding them). mates use tear offs though, they seem to manage them ok.

seen the cost of new lenses???

    Hmmmm - I'm torn.

On one hand, Will Snow says their no good and just goggles are fine.

On the other worlds and world cup champion, Sam Hill, says an inner tube on the fork is essential in the wet and the mud and uses one to good effect.

What's a bloke to do?

15 seconds mid race is not an option. and taking one hand of the bar to use a tear off ? well i aint that good and i hate big jumps.

So the best option is to stop as much crap reducing your vision in the first place for the least weight.

it a shame that i will not be able to fit one to the fork i will be running this year.

running a manitou i assume (backwards arch???)

and also, i never said 'they were no good'. oh, and steve peat, quite possibly the greatest racer of recent memory, uses an automatic tear off system. we can argue like this all you like. is up to you...

I suggested an inner tube is good in the mud and the wet because it stops the mud hitting your face. You suggested using goggles elluding to the following:

    use tear offs,
don't use tear offs they're too expensive but don't ride in the mud
use an automatic tear off system.

I concede that I was wrong, you are right and your suggestions are more practical and cost effective.

if you actually notice, my first post, aout using goggles was light hearted and a joke. obviously you have no sense of humour, so realising this i thought id take this p*ss. and great fun it was to!!! i dont really care if anyone wants to put inner tube on their frame, crud catchers or neoprene guards, i dont care if people use tear offs or anything. and most of my posts were written whilst drunk!!

oh dear, did i upset you???:lol::lol: im very sorry. i think its quite funny its gone from me saying goggles keep crap out of your eyes, and i dont use mudguards, to you spitting out your dummy saying i give bad advice (depite the fact i havent actually given advice, just told people what i prefer). the fact that i answered the orginal question this topic was about in the first post, which you then repeated directly afterwards is beside the point...

  • what a cunning stunt...

    You called sir?

Once in the distant past I dismissed these crown/arch creatures, but now I can see their benefits...although I still don't have one

There's nothing quite like riding through sewage overflowing from a drain (with used tampon jammed against the arch of course) to convince you of the neccessity of certain items

Now if I could just get a dogshit guard..

I have similar device, though less effective at blocking the mud: called me nose. Its crap at deflecting crap, but at recognising crap: oh yes. That will be a cow field I just rode through ooe er!
