Cycle to Work - Any bike recommendations

My work place is taking time about signing up to the Cycle to Work scheme, but it looks like they might go with it. So i've been looking into the possibility of getting a road bike.
I'm not new to commuting - been doing it for the last 13 years, mostly on a single speed MTB, but now quite fancy the chance to do a few longer rides as well - Dunwich Dynamo and charity rides.
Quite like the look of a cyclo cross bike, or even a stripped down tourer but i'd be grateful for any recommendations of good drop bar bikes. Round about the £500 - £700 price range.

If you could stretch to £800, you can get a cyclocross bike with disc brakes.

Yeah, saw that Focus Disc and thought it looks pretty good. I use discs on my bike at the mo, but not sure if i'd want to go back to cable operated ones. They would make the wheels go further though.0

It's not a bike I'd leave locked up in public either. But for commuting to work it should be fine.0
