can you sort out my commute for me please?? (otley to normy)

ok, i live in otley and work in normanton. Cant cycle the whole way as its a bit too far, 25 miles, and would start off with me going up the chevin every morning ( a bloody great hill!) i start work at 8 am most days
The option as i see it are
1. drive to headingly with bike in car, park up and cycle from there(about 16 miles depending on where i park)
2. Cycle to burley (2 mile) get 6.30 train to leeds cycle from leeds to normy (12 miles?)
but i am open to any suggestions from those who do a similar journey.
Also would you recommend i use my road bike (faster obv) or MTB (would enable me to use a few miles of canal path.
i know it all sounds obv but i want to try and get it right so i stick with it, thanks for any tips
