I have a 100mm Fox Float on my bike at the moment & it tends to bob quite a bit & I have to keep the pressure high to allow me to climb. Plus it had a tendency to bottom out occasionally when not at a high pressure.

I am thinking of getting a Fox RP23, with the propedal thingy, which will be great for helping me get up the hills, but is it worth the cost? Will it allow me to set the shock a bit softer for descents?

Whether it's worth the money upgrading I don't know because you pay a lot buying it retail, but getting a bike with one is deffo worth it.

I was out demoing one this weekend, I chose the softest of the three pro-pedal settings and this was fine in the climbs, stiffer might have been nicer but I had another two to try! For the descents you can just flick the pro-pedal off to have the shock really active. The shop set it up perfect and even though I was using most of the travel on the big rocky descents, I never bottomed it out.

Lovely shock and I guess that's why it's probably one of the most common shocks on production bikes...

What bike and how modern is it?

This is the one I have my eye on:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Fox-Shox ... QQtcZphoto

it works out about €260/£190. The bike has a GT iDrive 4 frame similar to this: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.a ... &UberCat=0

I'm thinking I should go for it, the bike will have to last me at least another year & I may as well get the most out of that year...

So have you worked out what size you need? and fitting hardware?

What is the i2i? what is the stroke?

The eye to eye is 152.4/6", I believe the stroke is 31mm & I am presuming the the fitting hardware should the same as whats on the current fox float, otherwise I'll get my lbs to supply.

    - having said all that, I am still a bit weary of getting the info 100%, I'm not sure if the stroke on the RP23 is 31mm...

I am replacing the shock on my '06 GT iDrive 4 1.0
    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.a ... &UberCat=0
I thought the shock length (eye to eye)was a 6" but the wiggle site is telling me that it is 6.5".

Can anyone who has one of these frames please get a quick measurement?

The order has been placed on eBay so need info ASAP.

would it not be eaisier for you to measure your own shock? Like last night before ordering.

    Complicated situation...

... had a idxc & the frame was replaced with an id 4 under warranty - slightly different design & size large rather than medium.

They put my old shock on the new frame & I tried to buy the shock off the new frame from them, but it seems someone in the workshop got their hands on it first...

My old shock is on the bike and eye to eye is measured at 6"/152.4mm, but I am just a bit worried after seeing the spec on the wiggle site, which says its 6.5" shock...

The new shock is ordered, so I'm panicking a bit - if I can find out the right size I can probably stop the delivery before its too late...

Thanks for the help. But the bike illustrated is the idxc & not the same model as mine which is apparently an id 4 - GT don't seem to have helped with the naming ambiguity...

    It was 6"/1.25" (152.4mm/31.7mm)

Looking forward to my RP23 now, might be able to struggle up those hills a bit better...

... & the way down might be fun too...
