Sticking U-turn travel adjust on Revelations

I'm running a set of 2008 RockShox Revelations 426 (coil sprung) on my hardtail and they've been great, but the U-turn has recently become incredibly stiff. Yesterday I wound them down to around 90mm just to see what it was like but needed an adjustable spanner to unwind it back to 130mm. All I've done to them in the way of maintenance is wipe a small bit of lube on the stanchions after washing them down. Was that a mistake?

Is there anything I can do to get them back to normal?
