My scott Scale 20 has taken a few hits to various parts of the frame and chipped the laminate off the carbon, there are also a few nasty scratches.

I have had it looked at by my LBS and they assure me its nothing to worry about, however it looks rough.

Are there any sort of touch up/ repair kits out there? something i can paint over the scratch to protect the carbon underneath.

Cheers,

martin :)

If the carbon is intact, the integrity of the frame is also intact. You can protect high risk areas with patches: ie from cable rub, chain slap etc.

    cheers sonic,

I have patches all over it to stop cable rub its just the odd place where ive come off!

It took a hit just under the bottombracket by a hefty rock out in Cyprus so ive added a piece of 2mm neoprene to it that I cut off an old wetsuit.

I've simply painted over with a clear lacqueur (sp?) from Halfrauds on the odd chip. Can't see it doing any harm.

I've also protected the downtube (and cable rub points) with sportshield thick plastic stuff - seems good. But BB is still exposed - haven't hit it yet.

touch up with laquer and flatten with 1200 wet and dry, then finish off with a fine rubbing compound. it will look like new 8)
  • you can touch up carbon frames with fibreglass resin (available from prety much any wholesalers or diy shop) if your paranoid about it! or as above a laquer touch up stick or nail varnish!

what i have done to mine is Wrap a length of carbon twill weave around the down tube to give it some extra protection! (have been around fibreglass since i was a kid fixing sailing dingheys and have been playing with carbon weave for a few years!) you can get the weave from ebay if needs be abd it isnt overly expensive!
