Fitting mudguards - how to fit in with caliper brakes

Does anyone have any advice no fitting mudguards round caliper brakes? Does the part that holds the mudguards up fit between the brake mounting on the frame and the brake itself? If so, should I substitute it for the washer that is already there?

I'm about to tackle this job, and have visions of being still at it at midnight, feeling like - , the skin stripped from my knuckles, with neither and the brakes working properly. Are there any links with pictures that anyone knows on t'internet?

Cheers

  • I've just reread this, once I'd posted - d'oh! and realised the second sentence doesn' t make sense. What I meant was '...visions of being still at it at midnight, feeling like - , the skin stripped from my knuckles, with neither the mudguards nor the brakes working properly.

    ...thanks for bearing with me....

I fit the mudguard bracket at the back of the fork crown if the brake pivot bolt goes right through. If it's an allen bolt fitting into the crown then you'll have to mount it behind the brake caliper next to the crown with a washer between it and the brake preferably.

btw you can edit your posts - like I've just done ;)

  • thanks Geoff - two good tips! It is an allen bolt, so I'll try fitting it between the crown and the brake. But is there enough room for that? I guess I'll just have to find out, but I'd be interested to know if there's any general rule...
