Just geting back into things after a bit of a lay off and have been told (by she who must be obeyed) that i can have :D £500 to spend on a new bike. Have been looking on the net and decided on ether a gt avalanche 1 disc or a melin malt 1 or 2 (on sale at the moment) which one? Or any other recemondations?

merlin malt, great bikes for the money
  • Not tested a Malt 1 but tried out a Malt 2, Malt 4 and Rock Lobster. See thread Merlin for £900?

I'm about to purchase a Merlin today. Last week tested the above and they were all quality and great fun. Best specs for the money you can find.
We've already got a Malt 1 in the family and it has proved bomb proof - even with a 15 year old on it. If you can stretch go for the Malt 2 is the one to go for though - double butted tubing and rides nice. Some of the guys at Merlin have one and like the ride quality better than other frames.

Merlin MALT 1 frame not a patch on the GT - plain guage tubing, heavy. MALT 2 better. The AValanche at 500 quid got best on test in the recent WMB test, but the merlins are great value.
