New bikes - front wheel discs catching on pads

Hi all
I picked up 2 new GT avalanche 1.0s (one is a laydees) the other night and undid the QR on the front wheels so that I could get them in my car more easily. I got home and put the wheels back on but looking at them the front discs, whilst straight and true, are not sitting in the middles of the pads. Result is the front wheel disc rubs against the outer pad(i.e. the pad furthest from the hub). For example, if I lift the bike and spin the front wheel, it will spin but is slowed by the contact with the pad.
So, being a complete noob, any suggestions as to how I ensure that the disc sits centrally in between the pads? I'm guessing I've made some sort of balls-up as it has happened with both bikes.
A subsidiary question; the QR skewer seems to catch on a nipple that stick out of the bottom of the front fork meaning that I can only operate it in certain directions, and that the QR skewer rotation is inhibited. Is this normal?
Brakes are Tektro Auriga, I think.
And front fork is Suntour X100

use them they will settle, if way of and do not then ret set the calipers, by leveing the brake applied over night. (if hydro brakes).
PS try the search function as this question gets asked very often, also you do not say what the brakes are."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Okay thanks, and sorry. Brakes are hydraulic. So having the brake applied for a prolonged period re-sets the calipers?0 -

If you mean the lever end then that's normal. You should be able to tighten/loosen the skewer with the "nut" end, if that doesn't turn properly then something might be wrong.0 -

Do not forget that to operate the Qr the closing action is to fold it closed."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

It is the lever end that is slightly obstructed. The lever is on the left if you are sitting on the bike - the same side as the pads + mechanism.
It folds fine, except it catches the nipple at the bottom of the fork if the lever is in a particular position. IIRC QR is shimano deore. Anyhoo, maybe being paranoind, but just checking that it was normal for the rotation/folding of the lever to be slightly obstructed by the bottom of the fork.
When I used to be into MTBs (granted, around 10 yrs ago), things were a bit different. (Sheesh, that makes me sound old, but I'm only 29!)0 -
Mine catch a bit sometimes - as long as they work okay, just grab some brakeage for a while and they should sort themselves out.
An advantage I have found with disks (I'm newish to them too) is that they seem to generally sit properly straight away and not catch. I found V brakes often went out of position slightly after wheel removal.0 -
Thanks for your replies chaps, and thanks for the reassurance Matteeboy.0

If its rubbing alot you can adjust the position of the brake caliper by lostening the screws holding it to the frame, adjusting its postion until its realighned and then retightening.
If its just occasionally catching, ie a ping sounds every so often just let them sort themselves out through brakeing.0
