Just watched the highlights of The Tour Down Under and noticed that almost all the riders are using all black water bottles, is this a new thing or have I just never noticed it before.

  • Black bottles in Australia?
They must be mad. That's the worst colour for heat absorption... every Aussie rider knows that.
  • Do they have black bottles to match their socks?

    They are pro's after all!

Where can we see the highlights of the tour?
    Anyone seen my bearings?
  • Highlights on Sky 2 or 3 at 6.30pm each night.

It's not repeated later in the evening is it?
  • The black bottles are likely due to some sponsorship, years ago coke supplied all the bottles on the TdF, only when that deal finished did the more common nowadays team bidons get produced
  • beat me to it. :)

Check out Steephill's post. He has a link to his dashboard which in turn links to some short SBS (Australian TV channel) highlight clips each day.

I had a black bottle last tour I went on in Germany in the spring. The weather was great, lovely and hot, just like my water. Never again.

Think you're right. Looks to be a Powerade sign on the bottle in this pic. They are listed as an official sponsor.

  • Mystery solved, dont think I will be following the pro's lead, I like my drink a bit on the cold side.

Sky being Sky show the highlights later in the evening but never at the same time each night, best check listings.

Team bidons have been around for years. Don't forget that most races won't have a bottle sponsor.

Black may not be too bad for the pros- how many will they go through each stage - whereas most of us have to make ours last the full distance of our ride.
