Campag.8 - 9 speed freehub

Hi I bust my 9 speed freehub on my winter wheels, so bought a new freehub that doesn't fit(vuelta wheels) I have an old set of 8 speed mavic wheels campag hub and was thinking of swapping the hub.Will this work as its a swine to put the freehub on with string to hold pawls in place.I don't want to buy a new set of winter wheels.Hope this makes sense.
