First of all hi, and forgive me for the name, I don't have a Punto anymore, I have a bike instead.
Just wondering if any one on here is from the NE England.
Was riding through Low Fell about 6.30pm tonight and caught up with a cyclist on a hybrid type bike. I sat behind for a while until it was safe to pass (no, I wasn't shielding from the terrible headwind) and was wondering why you had to make a point of shouting at every car that so much as had a piece of tyre tread in the cycle lane, there was still enough room?
Anyway, after I passed you, sorry for my dodgy maneuver(sp?), I wouldn't normally do that, I lost concentration for a few seconds. But, yes, I know I was very lucky.
P.s. Ive been a regular on here for a while, signed up before it became bikeradar.com but I decided to come back and start posting again.

Too right too, teach the car drivers to respect the cycle lane, one tyre in the cycle lane is a sure sign they arent paying attention to their road position a quick shout from a cyclist wakes them up. A car driver who isnt paying attention to their road position is an absolute hazard to any cyclist passing them or any cyclist they pass.
Whilst I dont know this particular cycle lane, the lanes I use if a car has a wingmirror in the lane you wont get past safely...
I had a car once who drifted merrily into the cycle lane till he got to the point where his tyre was rubbing on my show on the pedal. Thats not much fun. Far better to make sure that the drivers are woken up before hand...0 -
Fair enough, I understand what you're saying and car drivers maybe should be made more aware but in this case the road isn't particularly wide, yet the lane painted on it is so there's more than enough room once you're riding in it.0

There might well be enough room, but it doesnt make it right for a car driver to not be paying attention to their road positioning.
The guy who ran into me was woken up pretty quickly, when I "steadied" myself on his window and shouted exceptionally loudly through his open sunroof. I next saw the car about 2-3 months later staying well clear of the cycle lane.
The cyclist who wakes up a driver can have an impact on making the driver think about cycle lanes more in the future making the roads safer for everyone. Its not a big hassle for a driver to stay out of the cycle lane. I wouldnt necesarily be screaming at everyone but I will make it clear to anyone who is at all in the cycle lane that cyclists do use it... Normally a glare through a window is enough.
Im looking forward to getting an airzound for the real cycle lane blockers... Beep a horn at them that they will hear and then cheerily point down to the cycle lane, should be enough to wake them up without getting aggressive.0
