Hardtail or suspension advice

Hi Guys , new to this forum and I am going to be getting back into the Mountain bike scene again
I have about £1000 (or a bit more) to spend on a bike and I dont know what to buy

I have lost contact with the sport as far as gear is concerned but have had mixed messeges coming back to me

I am a weekend rider in the UK

My friends have all bought fully susppension bikes and like them. They can be locked out I am told. But would a hard tail be better?

Hardtail, much better spec for your money, for general trail riding a mid travel hardtail will be fun and you'll get your skill back up quicker and generally be a better person.

I'd look at the marin rocky ridge. RRP 999

Good call...i bought a f/s...ended up bk on my old hard tail, skills are so much better! More in "feel" with the bike, better contol...no exatly what the rear's doing!

For £1000 a hardtail all the way.

This month's MBUK has a glowing review of the Marin Rocky Ridge - £999 - great spec at that price.

I was an avid hardtail rider, i then wet over to the darkside of fs, and tbh i havn't looked back. You go so much faster, harder, ride trails that you didn't think you'd be able to do, Do more extreme stuff.

Amthough i can see the attractive a ht, my brother went out on his again at the weekend, and said he loved it, pitty i sold mine lol :roll:

At this price point full sussers are still just poorer heavier cousins for the best part. Once you start hitting the £1400 mark it gets exciting with full sussers.

Yeah but FS is the dark side. If returning you'll find hardtail much more enjoyable, you can always buy a FS frame at a later date and move your parts over...

Definitely consider the Marin Rocky Ridge.
If I had £1000 to spend on a bike, I'd definitely get one of those if I wanted a new bike or shopped very carefully offer prices for a full-susser.

The question would be would you want a very good hardtail or a slightly lower spec full-susser

theres a test in what mountain bike i think at the moment on £1000 full sus bikes. check it out.
just to note i went from a full sus to a hard tail swapped all the bits from a delicious marin alpine trail to a steel framed on-one inbred.
