Simply not true. Whenever i cycle up behind a girl on her bike I'm usually more than happy to stay there for a while and admire the view
Not matter how fast she is I seem to be able to keep up without too many problems0 -
Nope, if shes stronger and faster than me then best of luck to her0
-
No, why would I? Just because I'm old doesn't mean I'm sexist. If I were, herself would have thrown me out 37 years ago and the daughter (who of course would not have been) wouldn't speak to me.
Nearly everyone passes ME anyway!d.j.

There's not many cyclists (both men and ladies) I know that like being overtaken at all by other cyclists whether that be by males OR females ..........it's not a gender thing .......it's a cycling thing !Luke0

Certainly not! You are a cyclist, it doesn't matter in the least. We need a bigger boat.

I dont care if its a woman or a man overtaking me.... I dont like it!
Sure enough if I overtake someone itmakes me feel good lol. If someone overtakes me I start looking at the bike trying to figure where hes getting all that speed from
No but seriously, I cant say I mind people overtaking me. If they do, it gives me a challenge and i must keep up! Makes things a little more interesting0 -
I'd say the theory has some merit, given the size of the average male ego.
Personally, I wouldn't mind being overtaken by a girl because of the novelty value :-)

From the point of view of a girl who sometimes overtake blokes, a lot depends on whether the bloke looks like a fit/athetic/racing type cyclist. There's no fun in overtaking someone who looks like they're quite new to cycling, is on an MTB or kitted out in civvies.
I don't think blokes generally mind though. I caught and overtook a guy from a local club this morning, which made him wake up and raise his tempo. I arrived back in my village 3 or 4 miles later and he caught me up and was ever so pleasant.

This guy hates being overtaken by anyone, don't care how many Y chromosomes they have.0

On rare occasions I've been overtaken by another girl (just because there aren't that many about - blokes overtake quite often) it has been a little bit more painful I have to admit.
I once was overtaken by a guy after I'd lost a bit of concentration and wasn't putting full effort in. I woke up, just as Ruth describes, and chased him down. He realised I was still with him after a couple of miles, just as we approached a green traffic light. He slowed right down to a snails pace until it went amber then accellerated through so that he could finally drop me! Git.0 -
I Would contribute to this discussion but I've never been overtaken.

I'm quite used to it by now
Anyone's welcome to come past me providing they don't come past 'with attitude' (hard to define but I'm sure you know what I mean!). It helps that I'm not a particularly competitive bloke. In fact I reckon I'm by far and away the least competitive person on here...0 -
No way...I bet I'm the least competitive!0

you got the moral victory, he had to resort to tactics, not outright speed and sustained speed to loose you.My signature was stolen by a moose

I agree. I quite often pass blokes on my commute and they don't like it (I still get passed myself a fair bit though, mostly by roadies - I ride a fastish hybrid).0

I bet Mike Macnamra was slightly upset when Beryl passed him on their competition record breaking 12 hr. Apparently she offered him a sweetie as she went by. No attitude there then?
I was once passed by a woman on the Peyresourde. My excuse was I'd got camping gear and she was on a stripped down racing bike. I have a feeling I might have struggled even without the panniers.
GeoffOld cyclists never die; they just fit smaller chainrings ... and pedal faster0 -
True!
It all comes down to genetics and social evolution. Historically, we've been the strong hunter type. women have been the gatherer type.
So when a woman comes up and proves she's physically faster (and therefore superior ) than a man, well, it's like being able to have a better aim with a boomerang and kill more food.
Taken another step, the equivalent is a man being better at gossiping, sewing, personal hygene + shopping than all the ladies! I bet that really pisses off some chicks... to the point that they they'll mutter "he must be gay". And they'll refuse to believe it if he's not gay.
So I guess the point is: is the woman on wheels really a butch or just a hot chick that's fit :?:0 -
Worse than being passed by a member of the opposite sex has to be being passed by someone wearing tweed trousers, lace up leather shoes and a checked shirt!
I was going about 20mph and he shot past me - thats gotta hurt0 -
I get overtaken so often that the gender of my tormentor is the least of my worries.0
-
i dont mind except for when its the old ladies carrying all their shopping on their bike :oops:0
