Has any body tried these hats. There supposed to be waterproof and breathable.I've tried various hats/caps over the years and none have kept me warm and dry,its either one or the other.

  • I've never tried the hat but the gloves are good.

My son is a kayaker and gets some of his stuff here.

If you look at the site you'll see its not cycle gear but the hats and socks might be okay, I've worn the socks and they are very warm, he has a balaclava and is out in all weathers in the North Sea wearing it so I guess that's also warm.

I use one of these: Thermolite® Skullcap

Keeps head and ears toasty warm and any sweat gets wicked away. On a few occassions I've taken my lid off to find sweat beading on the outside of it!

It's not waterproof though, but you don't notice the cold or wet. Cheap too.

tarpaullynn: I'm sure that the stuff on your link would work well, but I can't help thinking that they look a bit ...erm...fetishist!!!

Maybe not too much help, but I have the "windproof" version of the Sealskin Beanie.

I was out last Saturday for about 2 hours in the rain and it kept my head nice and warm.
    Although not completely dry!
However, it is difficult to tell whether it was rain or sweat - nevertheless it wasn't uncomfortable.

From what I have read, it is difficult for a manufacturer to get the balance right between waterproof and breathable anyway.

Oh and I feel like I've been raped by an Orangutan  And I've got legs like Girders
  • Thanks for the replies guys. Will check them all out and do some homework. It's a catch 22 situation.

I've got one. Its a bit of a tight fit under the helmet I use so it doesn't get used on the bike. I use mine when I'm out walking in the hills etc. and its great - warm and waterproof. As I don't use it on the bike I can't comment on its breathability or how waterproof it would be at speed. Its plenty warm just wandering about so there is a chance it might be a bit too warm for the bike.
