Lookin to upgrade my bike to fully sussed for the summer, have up to 1500 quid to spend.
I ride xc/local trails mainly, and a bit of downhill when i can get there.
Have been lookin at some reduced bikes but interest free credit not available on these so an 08 bike may be on the cards.
Some advice would be much appreciated

There's loads of choice at that price - and some of the big brands are giving great value this year.
The Stumpjumper and Trance X spring to mind, but I haven't ridden either to recommend.0 -

Sorry Andy_B I have to disagree about the Scott Shock being in the wrong place
I have a Scott MC10 and a Stumpjumper
Both bikes are brill.
But the Scott is in nearly all circumstances a better bike.
And the thing with the Scoot shocks that differ from most other shocks is that they "expand" on shock. Where as most others "shrink" on shock. So the mud etc doesn't get into the shock housing.
In short, kenone............I recommend a Scott0 -
Andy_B wrote:Personally I'm not a big fan of Scott Full Sussers, the shock is in totally the wrong place for UK riding, what with all the mud & crud, it's bound to get into the shock & do lots of damage (IMHO)
i know this bikes hasnt been mentioned on this thread but what do you think?

Gary Fisher bikes use a slightly different geometry to other manufacturers, Genesis geometry. The forks are very specific to GF bikes and there are very few forks that you can upgrade to.
It's a love/hate thing, the handling is quite different to most bikes.
Best way is to test one (as with any bike purchase, especially an expensive one)0 -
Yeah, im gonna get down the local trail this weekend.
Will give em a call and see what they have to try out, dont think theyre gonna have any gf bikes there though. I know they stock gt and scott so hopefully they will have the right models in my price range. Def gotta try a few bikes out though, its a little bit more of an expense than when i got my hardrock!Get your dog off my lawn!0 -

I can really recommend the Specialized Pitch, i've got the comp and it's an awesome ride that'll soak up loads of abuse and is easy enough to pedal for hours round fire roads and single track0
