Rear projection

I'm being a bit naughty here because this isn't cycling related ..... I've been offered a Samsung rear projection television for a reasonable price. Apparently it's a CRT based system (SP42Q2HL). Am I right in assuming that there isn't a bulb to blow and need expensive replacement.

No but the tube can blow like on a normal telly. The other issue with rear projection is 'ghosting' on the screen, particularly with those new little channel signs in the top corners of the screen.0

Another issue with rear projection is they are very fragile, the slightest knock and they cn be knackered, when I say slightest putting it down when carrying too hard can be too hard a jolt.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

I thought the point of Cake Stop was for anything that isn't cycling related. Threads about TV's, Gladiators and nasal passages should be welcomed with open arms!
Post away, Sir!!
Unfortunately I have no knowledge of Rear Projection Units. Er, sorry about that....0 -
Chrisnoir, I was put here after originally posting in the road gear and know how section. To be honest, I wasn't aware that cake stop was a non bike related area of the forum, so apologies for that M. Cole.
Thanks for the replies about the television.0 -
No problem! Hope the TV goes well!
The rolling eyes smiley was a bit uncalled for Mister Cole...0 -

What's a reasonable price? CRT is no longer used and LCD/Plasma is the way things are going. CRT is heavy and large but I will say large LCD/Plasma is costly. i just wouldn't want a large CRT tv again. I have a 24" widescreen but would now change to LCD just in terms of size (or lack of!)M.Rushton0 -
£200 for a 3 year old 42" rear projection television. It's still a pretty impressive bit of kit despite being somewhat superseded technology, we've seen it running and the picture is quite good. You'd have to spend a grand to get the equivalent size in flat panel technology. This will do for now while the price of large flat panels is still quite high.0
