I picked up a set of Vistas for a good price and am wondering should you (can you)maintain the freewheel and bearings on these wheels as I've heard horror stories of Mavics tearing the internals to pieces if you dont keep the grease up to them?
Thanks

    Thanks

    Hi there.

I've got a pair of Easton Vistas that came as original spec on a bike I bought - after three years use as training wheels the freehub pawls went and I attempted to buy a replacement freehub body.

So far (two months later) I've had no luck with 2 different bike shops and the Easton distributors (Extra). So I decided to buy a new hub and rebuild it myself. Trouble is 24 hole rear hubs are in both short supply and are too expensive for a training wheel (American Classic make a nice one).

In the end I found a 24 hole fixed hub going cheap, so I'm going to rebuild the wheel and stick it on the fixed instead. I bought a slightly 2nd hand Shimano r500 for £30 to use as a training wheel instead.

I get the opinion that Easton treat the bottom of the range Vistas as being disposable - so they don't distribute spares. In truth the wheelset is really a Velomax design that they inherited when they bought the company over.

Sorry to go off at a bit of a tangent - you won't go wrong chucking in a but of fresh grease every so often, but don't expect the wheels to last forever at that price!

    Cheers, Andy

You can always use a 32 hole hub and build it up with triplet pattern (like Fulcrum rear wheels).
