SRAM x5 left hand shifter problem

When shifting up to a larger chainring the lever gets stuck in and I'll sometimes have to pull the lever back to click it back in place. The deraulliure is working fine when shifting, its just after the shift the lever gets stuck. Any ideas as to what is causing this?
I was thinking along the lines of either cable friction or a nackered spring (despite them only being 2ish months old),

Cheers,

Olly

could be mucky cables as the weather has been fun.

Had a few problems with the x5's of last year. Got a replacement for one on a guys bike where the ratchet mechanism went completely. The replacement had the same problem.
    Solution: Shimano

The problem has occuring since the bike was fairly new, so I dont think it can be mucky cables, but I check it out when I get my bike home.

if it has happened from new then take it back for the shop to sort.

But don't hold your hopes up if it's Halfords.

Took my 1 month old Fury 07 back to them last week because of a knackered SRAM x5 LH shifter. They took both apart (and broke the other one) and said that the ratchets were broken and that I'd forced them. Rubbish.

So as they reckon that I've broken them, they're trying to charge me for two new shifters.

Rubbish for a 1 month old bike tbh and rubbish service from Halfords.

My local halfords are generally ok, there is one mechanic who actually knows what he is talking about, and they are generally very helpful and reasonable, the may not have the amazing service and knowledge as my lbs (I would always use them for my annual bike service over halfords) but they do try their best

I checked the cable and they were very clean, I lubed them just to make sure but it didnt improve anything, Im pretty sure its something wrong with the actaul shifter, the upshift is defo a bit nackered when comparing it to the right hand shifter.
If worst comes to worst It'll be an excuse for a pair of x9s :)

My left x5 shifter clicks if you push it so far, but not far enough to change gear. i think an x7 shifer is about £1 more than x5 at the moment on CRC though.

i have exactly the same problem with my left sram shifter. still havent workes out what itis
  • I had this problem with my x7 shifters taking them completely to bits and cleaning them works for a while, the problem is the coating on the inner plates wears off causing them to stick, in the end i went for xt which have been faultless so far [ about 6 months ]
