Revalations or Reba U turns?

I've had my SC superlight (2007) for 6 months for so with Reba Teams (100). The geometry for the superlight is set up to take up to 120mm forks. At 100mm it's quite a racy feel (71/73 angles)

I'm off to Spain in may and thinking i'd like more adjustability and more travel for the steeper/rocky terrain.

Should i get the Reba U turns (which go up to 115mm) or the revs (up to 130). The warranty would be void if the frame snapped using 130mm forks but I've heard a lot of ppl use these forks with the superlight.

or i could just use the revs up to 120?

Anyone used longer travel forks with the superlight?

Says 125mm for a more relaxed feel. http://www.santacruzbikes.co.uk/bicycle ... ight.html# I very much doubt 5mm would invalidate your warranty and if you contact them I'm sure they'll confirm it.

  • It's strange that their other website states:

" 100-120mm will work great, depending on what you want the bike to do. 100mm forks will give the bike quick handling, and classic 71/73 degree angles. 120mm forks will make the bike more stable at speed and are better for slightly more aggressive riders. 120mm is the largest you can use and not void your warranty. I think you'd have trouble getting much more than 120mm travel out of the Revelations anyway, but that might be irrelevant warranty-wise.

If Rebas are equally reluctant to give their full travel, then maybe go for the longer Revs so you actually notice a real difference over your current forks?

Are you the sort of rider who's really likely to bust a fraem anyway?

  • I'm not a heavy rider (75kg)

I do find it strange why there is differing information on the 2 websites (i've emailed to ask why)

I think 100 > 130 mm would be quite a difference on the superlight

Why would that be? that's 10mm lower than they state?
  • You may find that your existing Rebas have a 15mm removable internal spacer, which when removed give you 115mm.Take a gander at the service guide on the RS website, where the process is described.

The forks require disassembly,so you might want to carry this out as part of a service.

Fishers offer a £60 service on Rockshox, and when I emailed them, they said that they could make my 85mm Rebas,go to100mm as ,by removing a 15mm internal spacer as part and parcel of this service. Not sure if this applies to all versions but worth a look.

Removal of this spacer is mentioned in the review of the Team version here:http://www.bikeradar.com/road/gear/category/components/forks-suspension/product/reba-team-poploc-10242

The dual air mechanism - significantly more pressure in the negative air chamber can pull the fork down.

I can't seem to get more than 110-120 out of mine.

This is probably partially down to ham-fisted set-up, but others have reported not getting full travel on them also.

If you got all of the travel out of them in normal use they wouldn't be any good - bottoming out. If you're worried that they won't give all the travel ever, take all the air out and measure the full stroke.
