Currently looking for a new bike for up to £2k max. Most likely 2007 model.
Criteria are :- must be lightweight, with light wheels, have low gearing, good VFM.
Use :- club runs, sportiffe rides, training, riding in the alps. Where I live hills (some steep)are a fact of life
Does anyone have views on the Ridley Excalibur - this particular bike is full Dura Ace equipped with Fulcrum Racing 3 wheels carbon bar, stem & seatpost. The frame unlike the Ridley Orion uses a combination of 24T & 30T carbon ( the 30T is used to stiffen the BB & Headset areas) it also uses a 1.25" headset bottom bearing. The claimed weight is 7.5kg -16.5lbs
I have heard that Ridley bikes have a very harsh & uncompromising ride? I currently have a Ridley "Triton T" alloy frame that is firm but not harsh.
Any other thoughts on other bikes that might fit the criteria eg Cannondale System 6, Scott CR 1, BH etc etc.

if youre looking for something with good vfm and arent too bothered about the name, the lastest saracens are a steal.

Full carbon frame, forks and fully suited with ultegra too. At 1699 youve got that bit left over for accessories, upgrades or to put away. Weighs next to nothing and is as technically made as any other manufacturers frame, but without the usual 3 lettered acronyms they make up. Top bike there.
