Just taken delivery of my gorgeous new Cervelo R3 2008 in stylish black and white...
Actually shipped her in from the US, saving myself about £500 on the frame price!

Anyway, she's now wearing my existing Ultegra gear, and I was planning to wait until the weather improves before upgrading various components... Unfortunately I got a bit carried away at the weekend and bought an FSA carbon crankset (don't drink and ebay!)

It is a triple Carbon Pro Team, which I think requires an ISIS bottom bracket. Could anyone recommend a good BB? Or at least confirm the size I need?

Thanks
Nic

SKF is the only way to go.

It'll be a 68mm shell and 108mm axle I bet. The doubles are anyway.

    Thanks maddog...

Anyone know if the triple needs a longer axle?

I think you need a 113mm for a triple - check on the FSA website, there are only 3 sizes of ISIS BB available anyway. ISIS BBs are notoriously weak due to the weenie bearings - that said, I've used one for 4 years and it still runs sweetly. Worth checking ebay - as ISIS is falling out of favour, there are many on there relatively cheap. I've both the Platinum and Ti BB's.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

the FSA platinums are okay for the money. A mate had a platinum (£25) on his roadie and it only lasted a year though - axle snapped. I think of you're a big fella or do a lot of miles then a SKF might prove better value in the long term.

Thanks for the replies... I really should read these auctions more carefully - the cranks are actually for an octalink bottom bracket...

    Any new suggestions?

I thought of mentioning that actually.....

now the doubles run 109.5mm axles and triples 118, usually

make sure you get a road BB - the mtb ones have different splines. Except the XTR ones, which are the same as the roadie BBs in terms of splines (but run different axle widths!)

Check out CRC for some good deals. The DA ones are rebuildable but the sealed units last fairly well and don't weigh much more.

Go for a Shimano Ultegra unit - mere grammes heavier than the Dura Ace but infinitely more durable, reliable and smoother

Well I went for Dura Ace in the end, but now I have another problem... My eBay 'supplier' has not included any crank bolts.

Does anyone know where I can get some suitable to match these cranks (triple carbon pro team) and the octalink bottom bracket? My googling has drawn a blank so far!

    Thanks for your help...

    M15 are what you want

    ISIS and Octalink are interchangeable

Sorry to bump my post again...

Just wanted to say thanks for the advice, and to post a picture of my completed build.

V nice, where in the States did you ship it in from? I'm quite tempted by getting an R3 this year.

    Hi LEGUAPE

I got it from RACYLES in New York... http://www.racycles.com/

I ordered on a Sunday evening, and it arrived on the Thursday. They charge $80 for shipping, and although there may be some additional customs duty to pay they helpfully put a reduced value on the paperwork so it only came to another £30! It worked out at around £1500 all in for the frame and fork
