Fair dos to her though, she was there to see him in. And in her interview for TF1 (French TV), her French was perfect. No wonder they like her over there so much.I was only joking when I said

As she says, records are meant to be broken.0

Are reports of the semi finals of the world tiddlywinks championships in yet ?
Oh, of course, i'll go to "Tiddlywinks Worlds" website to find out, how silly of me.0 -
Pah! I think he got lucky with the wind direction. Mind you, the French have a different approach to sailing to us.. ..as with cycling.0

Yes I did think that quite a large part of it is favourable weather. I hope Ellen has another go at it sometime.I'd rather walk than use Shimano0 -

And your point is?
If you are implying that this topic is out of place on a cycling forum, then look at this forum section's heading. If you go on a club-run/group ride and stop for a break, the amount of non-cycling crap discussed is legendary. This section of the forum is the online equivalent of that; there are plenty of sections where actual cycling/riding/results are discussed.I was only joking when I said

It's just a much bigger boat - the longer the hull the quicker the boat. Means you can have more sail as well. There was a brilliant pcture of it in Friday's Sport magazine with the thing caning along and 2 out of 3 hulls out of the water.
Apparently it's right on the limit of what a single person can sail. I say hats off to him, an awesome achievement to knock so much off the record.road0 -

As an ex-dinghy racer and living only a few miles from Ellen McArthur's home village I'm a great fan of hers. Anyone who's done any offshore sailing (and I have a little) will truly appreciate the huge achievement in simply sailing around the world solo let alone racing a mean machine like Joyon's.
I started cycling to get fit for sailing and did both for several years. I wonder why I like expensive activities where a main feature is getting cold and wet?
GeoffOld cyclists never die; they just fit smaller chainrings ... and pedal faster0 -
I think the French like Ellen alot more than the brits don't they? Didn't she get jeered by some mutants at Southampton when she came in and ridiculed on TV for having a cry when it was going t1ts up out in the Southern Ocean? Then finished second in Sports Personality. We know how to treat our sporting heroes don't we :roll:0

Agree with Mental - at least Clarkson fawned all over her when she was on Top Gear - quite right too :!:
What do I ride? Now that's an Enigma!0 -

She is still the fastest woman though. I bumped into Ellen at IKEA Nottingham the other day ,she is tiny you wouldn't imagine she could sail a dinghy on her own let alone sail one of those bloody great things round the world, fair play."BEER" Proof that god loves us and wants us to be happy0
