Bottom bracket woes

Hi guys,
had a fab time at Bracknell forest on Satuday, but a nasty graunching sound was diagnosed by a couple of experienced bike mechanic friends as a likely bottom bracket being on the way out.
My bike is an 06 Palisades trail only bought 18 months ago, and has been in storage for 6 months - in the first 3 months it only had very limited use, and it's only had some proper use in the last 6 months really.
According to the spec it is a Truvativ Power Spline cartridge, and the cranks are Truvativ 5D 44/32/22 with one alloy chainring and powerspline.
Can anyone tell me what kind of bottom bracket I need to get to replace this one?
I would prefer to go for something of a higher quality, that will last longer, but have no idea about compatibility with the existing crankset.
Many thanks
Dan

you have to use a power spline bb.
TBH bin it and get new cranks and bb, eg the HTII LX set up from shimano.
go talk to your LBS about costs...."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Thanks for your fast reply Nicklouse.
Would these be a suitable replacement: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=22924
Or is it these ones you mean? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=7251

The other classic is the older Shimano Octalink. Something these
