Hi all,

I'm about to buy my first mountain bike and have narrowed it down to two bikes but i'm stuck with the usual question: Which is the better deal from these two bikes?

Specialized Hardrock Sport Disc 2007 - £269

or

Carrera Kraken 2007 from Halfords - £265.

I have been for 4 or 5 rides in Macclesfield forrest on my brothers spare bike (Specialized Hardrock Sport 2007 (no disc brakes)) and I like how that bike rides, but does the Kraken offer a better ride for the money?

Thanks in advance.

I've owned 5 Specialized bikes, 3 consecutive. I'm not an obsessive Specialized fan, I think it'd be much more reliable than the Carrera (hey, I could be wrong) and probably much better value for money.

Let us know how it goes

hardrocks are a good starter bike. meening that you can put new bits on itwhen you get some spare cash but the basic kit is enough to get you around on (but can be made better)

Value wise, the Kraken, by a long way. 9spd, damped forks, light frame. Fork makes a big difference.

A bit more and youve got the vortex le. Beats both of them for value. Hydraulics, Deore rear mech, no name but light wheels, a decent frame and doesnt go towards lining Halfords pockets[/url]

Just thought I'd add my pennies worth...I have an 06 Carrera Fury, I've not had many problems with it, only the usual like loose pedal arms-which only need re-tightening properly.

I've noticed that some people seem to think that Carrera bikes are sub-standard compared to bigger named bikes, mine has been ok and the components it came with were also ok, but what do I know?

The only problem with Carrera bike is that only Hellfrauds sell them, which means that there is little after sales service unlike your LBS...

Hi to all from the WMB forum.

Kraken seems to have much better spec. Hardrocks are also quite heavy - if it were my money I'd go for the Kraken, even with the questionable customer service at Halfords.

To be honest, I couldn't tell the difference between a Carrera and Apollo if the names weren't written sprayed on the sides. self-preserve and get the f*ucking specialized

That just proves that you know nothing about bikes.

And by the number of posts you have Andy_B it seems you spend more time sitting on your arse at home on the computer than out on your bike. GET A LIFE! :D
