Has anybody got a Reynolds 953 road bike? What do you like/dislike about it? Any idea how much it weighs?

I've got mine on order and can't weight(!) to get it. Should only be a few more weeks hopefully.

The anticipation is building then! May I ask who you are getting it from, i.e. builder rather than shop?
  • I'm getting it from Brian Rourke. They are putting it together too.

You need to get hold of the current (Jan 17th) issue of Cycling Weekly. It has a review of a Bob Jackson 953 bike built with BTCs (Bicycle Torque Couplings) so that the owner could break the bike down and pack it into a 26" * 26" * 10" case for frequent trips away from home.

The weight of the bike was 18.5 lbs (including 0.5 lbs for the couplings). It had a Dura Ace/Ultegra mix of components.

    Some quotes:
"I have been using the bike for a year now and it is a joy to ride."

"The bonus [of 953] is that you get excellent fatigue life, dent resistance, corrosion resistance (now stainless steel) and light weight, yet still retaining the legendary ride of a steel frame."

Very nice - I fancy one of those!

a lightweight steel frame in a 56/57cm size is likely ro wheigh about 1400 to 1500 grams.
953 is claimed to be a little lighter than this but it will depend on what tube wall thickness the frame builder chooses as there are more than one tube types available
