Chain rubbing on front derailleur

Hello

I have only just bought my first mountain bike and need a little help. I have bought a Speacialized Hardrock Sport '07 and I'm pretty pleased with it. I don't know very much about tinkering with bikes yet so I need a little help.

When I put the bike into 6th or 7th gear, the smallest on the rear cluster the chain appears and sounds like it is rubbing on the front derailleur. Equally when the bike is in 15th/16th gear largest two at the back and largest at the front it does the same.

Is this something which will sork itself out after a good few rides or do I need to adjust something? If so what do I do!!!???

Thanks for any help.

please have a read of the info on Parktools.

there are some gear combinations that should not be used as they case to much bending in the chain EG when using the small ring on the front you should not use the smaller cogs on the rear.

Also as the bike is new the cables will now have stretched and will need the tension adjusting.
