\travelling home in the cycle lane down a one way street, going about 20 mph due to downhill. Its in the middle of city centre, very busy. A car is parked, two wheels on the curb, rest of car covering cycle lane. Even though i can see it is a hazard from 20o metres away i still have to avoid it. I have to swerve into the traffic lanes.
Beginning to get annoyed as it is a daily occurence and feel an urge to clip some wing mirrors and take them off. What would you do?

Completely ignore the presence of the cycle lane. Treat the space as part of the road and ride appropriately.

Cycle on to the next the phone box and dial 999 and say that you've just walked past this vehicle and you think there is a handgun on the front seat ?:wink::wink:

Then see if he's parked there again the next day

That sounds logical. :?: Become a criminal because you had to go around a car. Did I miss something?

I agree, cycle lanes are only advisory, you don't HAVE to use them. If you can see it's a hazard from 20M's away, start making checks that you can move over or better yet start to move over slowly so any following cars can see what your doing. Just remember despite what other road users would try to have you believe, you do have the same rights to use the road as them - and that doesn't just include the metre or so closest to the kerb :-)

I only have one short cycle lane on my commute, it's got that much cr4p on it, leaves, twigs, bit's of plastic, stones etc etc that I just stay on the main road.....

There's a cycle lane across a rail bridge in London seperated from the traffic, don't go in it though as invariably somebody has smashed a bottle in it.

    Right here: -

Big up to their artistic statement and all, but it is a little petty.

I do concede that a cycle lane means your far less likely to get vehicles being driven on the far left, but a broken white line on the road would acheive the same effect I'm sure, and you don't have to associate it with cycles.

    Hi,

Like Bikers46 has already said, why possibly give yourself a criminal record because a car is parked in the cycle lane. Just ride around it, if you've seen it from 200 meters away then plan for it, look over shoulder and start moving out giving your self plenty of time. If you have to swerve past it then your not looking far enough ahead. If it's bothering you that much report it to the police/council.
