New Chain (old one's stretched)

After bigging up my chain wear tool a couple of weeks ago in another thread, I decided to use it today only to discover that my chain has stretched by between 0.75% & 1% (around 10th of an inch stretch per foot, explains why the shifting is off). Currently got a PC971 SRAM chain, any recommendations for a new chain? I was considering another SRAM one. Chainset is a 3 ring 07 XT, 9 speed rear cassette (don't know which one), 07 XTR rear mech and an 07 LX front mech.
Would you recommend I change the cassette as well gven the amount of chain stretch (need to convince the missus). The cassette and chain have done about 470 miles, mainly off road in hill country, is this normal or has my riding style (mashed gears etc. ) contributed?

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

Go for another PC971, or if you wanna upgrade go for a PC991.
You shouldn't need to change the cassette as the chain isn't too worn out to kill the cassette. If the chain sips on the cassette then you do need a new one, if it doesn't it's fine.
I'm a spinner & chains last me quite a while, so if you're a masher it might contribute to the speed of the chain stretch.0 -

I always change the cassette at the same time im changin the chain, it may not always be completely necessary but it does stop and slippin or grindin before it even gets started.0
