I'm looking to get some half decent lights just to be seen by for around £20-25. They don't need to illuminate a country lane in the middle of the night or anything. Found these below, but not sure which is brighter? Or if there will be any noticeable difference and I should be looking at battery life above anything else? Or If there's another set for around £20-25 that anyone would recommend?

Topeak Highlite Combo
Cateye EL135 / TL130 Light Set
Cateye HL500 AU100 F&R Set
Cateye EL220 / TL270 Light Set

Thanks...

If youre not looking for a beam, id go for a el-135/Tl-130 combo. Found it here for a whole 75p cheaper!

The second cateyes are a bit bulky and just a bright, the third set are a bit small as with the topeaks.

    Don't know about the Cateyes.

I've got the Topeaks. I been keeping them as a spare.

In my opinion these are MASSIVELY outclassed by a combination of smarts:

    Rear - 1/2 watt superflash
    Front - 5 LED Polaris

They're available on sale at JEJames for £10.99 each. Cheapest I found.
  • You mean the Smart brand, like these;

    Smart 3 LED
    Smart 5 LED

These seem to be beams though, which is not really necessary.

I just know they're better than the Topeaks, in the price range and I find the 'pencil batteries' a better option than the batteries the Topeaks take (CR2025 & CR2032 buttons)

    Hi,

I have the cateye HL-LD150 which is the 5 LED as my front £13 from Evans and I've got the Blackburn Mars 3 as my rear LED £12 from Wiggle. Both take AAA batteries and the cateye does give out a strong white light.

2nd the Smarts...the 1/2 Watt rear is stupidly bright for the money.
the 5LED polaris on the front is also pretty good but the double pack they do is worth the month just for the rear alone.

I second the Smart Superflash Rear - its painfully bright when its got new batteries in.
The A6 Hazel Grove - "Always the worst part of any ride".
  • I recommend the Smart 1/2 watt Superflash also. Used mine tonight and jesus it was bright!!!
