Cateye Front Light EL120 problem

I bought a Cateye LED Front Light EL120 and was all set to fit it to my bike today, but to my complete frustratiion I couldn't get the casing open to insert the batteries. It should just slide off by pushing down and back according to the instructions, but it moves about 2mm and then won't budge any more.
Anyone else had similar problems with Cateye lights in general or this model in particular?
