Hey all ive just bought a garage near me and i want to convert it to my own bike shed.

At the mo its totally empty and has no garage door.

I am going to fit a garage door obviously and reinforce it but how can i keep the bikes in there eg: Floor locks. I am going to resurface the floor so i was thinking if i laid a sheet of metal accross the whole floor and bolt onto it then cement it over so i got a floor lock. Then what can i do for working on my bike and what tools do i need.

Ive got the basic tools like: Chain Tool, Spanners, Rachets, Crank Extractors, BB extracters, Cassette Tools etc.........
What other tools would you recommend and what is a good work stand....?

Thanks

just lay little patches of metal as a whole layer will be crazy expencive. then add locks and concrete. other than that decent floor anchors and locks. tool wise sounds good, pretty much what i have.

Why bother doing it at all? A proper floor anchor will have a plate attached which you concrete into the floor. And besides, good floor bolts are perfectly suitable as long as they are installed properly.

Have you seen the price of sheet steel lately  !!!

something like that? get a few of those and just drill them into the concrete should be much cheaper i'd have thought and some decent chains you'll be sorted for security (hopefully).

not sure about a work stand but there's plenty out there to choose from I think
with the cement floor try n make it as smooth as possible or maybe some sort of vinyl flooring makes it much easier to keep clean and find those bolts when you drop them :)

If you are going to make the effort to do this, which I applaud, not cheap, I'd get a decent tool kit and hang them all on the wall. Decent basic kits can be had from about 35 quid - then add to that more specialist tools like a headset press, certain spanner sizes, torx keys etc and build them up.

How about a saline bath by the door connected to a transformer and a cunningly hidden switch outside. Just make sure you put a high voltage sticker on the door so you can't be held responsible for any dead scrotes you find and don't forget to switch it off yourself.

Jonking aside, make sure you seal the concrete (PVA, floor paint, expensive floor selaer, whatever) or you'll be sweeping up dust for the rest of your time. Anyone mentioned a beer fridge yet?

You can get an old school/office table (that has a steel frame) and use that as a work bench for stripping and assembly.

A reliable vice is a good idea. 4" wide jaws should be sufficient for bike stuff.

    Ball end allen keys.
Rubber matting (just for fettish fun)
Tool cabinet to keep it all in. Cupboards. plastic boxs from Wilco's.
WD40 to periodically spray everything with to stop it rusting in the damp environment.
De-greasing solution and old wasing up bowl.
    Rags.
Bottle of water, sugar, kettle and tea. Camping gas stove.

    Plus the rest.

Remember to leave space by the door so you can poke the front of your car in to do under bonnet stuff/repairs in the dry, if not warm!

I'd love to have a garage, you luck b'd
